Former Toronto Raptors draft pick Bruno Caboclo put together an impressive performance for Brazil.

Caboclo scored only 6 points through Brazil’s first two games of group play. However, on Aug. 2, Caboclo exploded in Brazil’s win over Japan.

Brazil had a slim chance of making it out of group play, but Caboclo’s performance secured them a spot in the quarterfinals.

He put up 33 points on 13-for-19 shooting from the field along with 17 rebounds in Brazil’s 102-84 win:

Caboclo became the first player with more than 30 points and 15 rebounds in a game at the Olympics since 1972.

That is not all, Caboclo had an efficiency of 43, the second-highest since efficiency started in 2016. The player above him is Slovenia’s Luka Doncic, who had 49 against Argentina in 2021.

Those 17 rebounds against Japan propelled the 28-year-old into the top 10 all-time in a single game, tying him with seven other players.

Prior to this explosive performance, Caboclo was named TISSOT’s Most Valuable Player of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. He averaged 17.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks to earn his country a spot in France.

Ultimately, Brazil finished Group B with a 1-2 record to lock up third place. They will meet the United States in the quarterfinals.

Bruno Caboclo’s stats with the Raptors

When originally drafted by Toronto, Caboclo was considered a project pick. The Raptors were hoping to develop him into a rotation piece.

However, things did not pan out in his four seasons in Canada. Caboclo averaged 1.1 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists on 26.2 percent shooting from the field and 27.8 percent shooting from deep in 25 games.
