The Toronto Raptors could be in the mix for Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson.

Johnson currently has three years remaining on his contract and is slotted to make $23 million this upcoming season.

After Brooklyn decided to part ways with Mikal Bridges, it is apparent that a rebuild is in store for them.

At 28-years-old, the former Tarheel could be wanting to go to a winning situation. Given his ability to space the floor and defend at a respectable level, many playoff, championship-contending teams will be interested.

However, Toronto could be a ‘dark horse’ team in trade talks for Johnson, according to Brian Lewis of New York Post:

“While the Kings, Magic and Lakers are interested, one recent report claimed the Spurs, Raptors or Warriors could be a “dark horse.”

For the Raptors, this would have to be a move that they believe speeds up their rebuild. Certainly, as a career 39.2 percent shooter from three-point range, Johnson could help make life easy for Scottie Barnes.

Shooting is something Toronto has been looking for the past few offseasons. To potentially bring in a qualified one like this could do wonders for head coach Darko Rajakovic’s offense.

However, Brooklyn does not need to move Johnson unless they get what they want. One can assume that the Nets would want at minimum a first-round pick to get conversations going.

As Toronto has brought in some young talent, it would be interesting to see who Nets general manager Sean Marks would want from the Raptors.

Expect some stiff competition for Johnson as Brooklyn could exercise patience to make sure their return is what they like.

Nonetheless, acquiring the sharpshooter would be a plus, but his contract and injury history may make teams cautious about giving up assets.
