The Toronto Raptors are heading to Malaga, Spain in August.
This will allow Toronto to experience a change of scenery as they prepare for next season.
The Embassy Training Centre will host the Raptors as they have strong ties with the NBA. This location has been the headquarters of NBA Europe in the past few years with 35 players joining NBPA’s “The Sanctuary” project, per Eurohoops.
Now, an NBA franchise is being hosted for the first time, which is a historical moment for Toronto. Perhaps setting a precedent for other teams to go to Malaga in future seasons.
In the midst of a rebuild, this adds an interesting wrinkle to a young Raptors squad. To be able to get away and experience a change of scenery could be a positive.
Team chemistry is a massive part of becoming a winning basketball team. With young players leading the charge for the Raptors, they need to continue to mesh together.
As Scottie Barnes is the No. 1 option and RJ Barrett along with Immanuel Quickley are his sidekicks.
All three of them missed extended time last season. Now, they get a chance to embrace a new opportunity in Spain to kick off their 2024-25 campaign.
In addition to head coach Darko Rajakovic entering his second season, this opportunity allows him to get to know his team better as he learns to move this rebuild along.
All in all, it will be intriguing to see if a trip to Malaga could become a driving force for improvement for Toronto.
