The Toronto Raptors had to part ways with Christian Koloko before the start of the 2023-24 season.
After showing some flashes during his rookie season, Koloko dealt with a blood clot issue that kept him sidelined.
When he was ultimately released from Toronto, his future in the league became uncertain.
However, after taking this last season off, Koloko worked on his recovery. Now, he has made great strides towards making a return to the NBA.
Recently, the former Raptors center participated in a private workout held for several free agents during the 2024 Summer League, according to Damian Burchardt of The U.S. Sun.
This workout took place on July 13, Koloko’s agent Calvin Andrews of Klutch Sports told The U.S. Sun. Koloko has now become medically cleared to return to basketball, per Andrews.
The 7’1″ center came out of Arizona and was the No. 33 pick of the second-round in the 2022 NBA draft. Koloko showcased his defensive capabilities in a small sample size.
He averaged 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 58 games in his first season with the Raptors
Perhaps a team in need of frontcourt depth takes a deeper look at Koloko.
Another player who dealt with blood clots is former Raptor Chris Bosh. He ultimately had to retire because of this issue. Therefore, it is great to see Koloko be able to return to the game he loves and hopefully he earns himself a new opportunity.
Christian Koloko provides update
Back on June 14, it appeared that Koloko was hard at work making sure he could become officially cleared.
He shared an update with his workouts and now he is medically cleared in a little under a year of rehabbing.
