O.G. Anunoby is staying with the New York Knicks.

The former Toronto Raptors wing intends to sign a five-year, $212.5 million contract with the Knicks when free agency officially begins, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal will reportedly include a player option and a trade kicker for the final year of the contract:

The Knicks acquired Anunoby from the Raptors in December in a five-player deal that sent Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn to New York for Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, and the Detroit Pistons’ second-round pick.

The Raptors were unable to sign Anunoby to a contract extension because of restrictions from the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, Toronto couldn’t risk losing Anunoby for nothing in free agency.

Anunoby could’ve waited for a potential max contract offer from another team in free agency. A team like the Philadelphia 76ers could’ve offered him a contract up to $181.9 million over four years. However, Anunoby opted for more guaranteed money and to stay in New York.

The Knicks have now put themselves in a great position in the Eastern Conference. They just traded for Mikal Bridge and they will still have the likes of Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo. The Knicks are all in for next season.

NBA free agency begins on June 30 at 6 p.m. ET. Anunoby’s contract will become official on July 6.

Raptors tease rebrand ahead of NBA Draft

The 2024-25 season will be a special one for the Toronto Raptors.

It will be their 30th anniversary, making for another milestone for the franchise.

Something that Raptors fans have wanted for several years now is for the team to bring back the classic purple dinosaur jerseys, iconically worn during Vince Carter’s tenure with Toronto.

This dream may finally be coming true as another teaser was released by the Raptors on X.
