The Toronto Raptors are entering their first summer under this rebuild as they look to add talent.
With the 2024 NBA Draft on June 26 and 27, this is the first significant step of the offseason for Toronto. Which could go a long way in adding complementary pieces to the core of Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett.
Once that concludes, free agency kicks off on June 30, a chance to add a little bit more to their roster.
Rumors are now beginning to surface connecting players to teams. One player is Washington Wizards guard Landry Shamet, who is being linked to the Raptors according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Shamet averaged 7.1 points in only 15.8 minutes last season. His three-point shooting took a dive, only shooting 33.8 percent, a career-low last season. Shamet also has $22.75 million of non-guaranteed salary for the next two seasons.
However, his skillset makes sense as Toronto looks to surround its young core with capable shooters. During his previous stops with the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets, Shamet shot above league average from distance.
Playoff teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, L.A. Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Orlando Magic are also rumored to be in the mix for Shamet.
Although, teams will have to match his $22.75 salary, which is higher than teams would like.
Scottie Barnes intends to sign 5-year contract extension with Toronto
Another key decision this offseason was Scottie Barnes becoming extension-eligible. However, Toronto did not waste time getting that deal done.
It was reported on Monday that Barnes intends to sign a 5-year, max contract to remain a Raptor.
