Former Toronto Raptors players Oshae Brissett and Svi Mykhailiuk have won their first NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games in the 2024 NBA Finals to clinch their 18th championship in franchise history.
Mykhailiuk played in 13 minutes from off the bench for the Celtics in the NBA Finals. The Raptors parted ways with Mykhailiuk following the 2021-22 season.
Mykhailiuk signed a one-year minimum deal with the Celtics for the 2023-24 season and appeared in 41 games for them.
For Brissett he is the latest Canadian to win a championship.
Brissett became the 10th Canadian player to win an NBA Championship joining the likes of Jamal Murray and Andrew Wiggins.
The Raptors waived Brissett ahead of the 2020-21 season in Tampa Bay.
Brissett appeared in 55 games for Boston during the regular season and came off the bench to make 10 playoff appearances. The Mississauga native played in the final 38 seconds of Boston’s Game 5 victory.
It’s always great to see former Raptors go on to have success. For Mykhailiuk and Brissett they will never forget about this accomplishment for the rest of their lives.
Raptors can start negotiating with own free agents
The 2024 NBA offseason is officially underway.
Under the new CBA, teams can start negotiating with their own free agents the day after the NBA Finals end.
Teams still can’t talk to other free agents until June 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
The Raptors are allowed to begin having conversations with pending unrestricted free agents Gary Trent Jr, Garrett Temple and Jordan Nwora.
Toronto will also be allowed to discuss a new contract with restricted free agent Immanuel Quickley. They can sign Scottie Barnes to a contract extension as well.
