The 2024 NBA offseason is officially underway.
Under the new CBA, teams can start negotiating with their own free agents the day after the NBA Finals end.
Teams still can’t talk to other free agents until June 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
The Raptors are allowed to begin having conversations with pending unrestricted free agents Gary Trent Jr, Garrett Temple and Jordan Nwora.
Toronto will also be allowed to discuss a new contract with restricted free agent Immanuel Quickley. They can sign Scottie Barnes to a contract extension as well.
The other name to watch is Bruce Brown Jr. The Raptors will have to make a decision on his team option by June 28. Recent reports suggest that the Raptors will pick up Brown’s $23 million team option and then look to trade him this offseason.
Arguably the biggest priority for the Raptors will be to lock up Quickley which could take some time to make official. He has a cap hold for this summer for $12.5 million, which is far less than the $25-$30 million salary he’s expected to earn next year. The Raptors will be able to match any offer that comes Quickley’s way. Since the Raptors traded O.G. Anunoby in a deal to get Quickley, it would be shocking if they didn’t ink a new deal with him.
If the Raptors don’t bring back Brown, then it seems likely the team will re-sign Trent Jr. He has been extension-eligible all season but he and the Raptors were unable to negotiate a new deal. Trent Jr. will be able to sign with any team this summer.
If the Raptors do bring back both Temple and Nwora it seems likely that they will be minimum signings.
Then there’s Barnes, who Toronto will work out a max contract with that will kick in after this upcoming season. It’s been reported that Barnes’ new deal could be $260 million over 5 years.
Raptors are a team to monitor for Zach Edey
The next important dates for the Toronto Raptors will be June 26 and 27 for the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Raptors are slated to pick at No. 19 and No. 31. Recently, Toronto has been linked to Canadian big man Zach Edey.
