The 2024 NBA Draft is around the corner for the Toronto Raptors.
Being able to surround Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett with necessary talent will be the key.
After falling out of the lottery, Toronto will have the No. 19 and No. 31 pick.
Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports has the Raptors taking Johnny Furphy out of Kansas at No. 19 in his latest mock draft:
“He’s the prototypical NBA wing – long, athletic, can defend multiple positions. Built in the mold of two wings they’ve lost – Siakam and Anunoby.”
Furphy went to the same school as Gradey Dick, sharing a similar playstyle by being able to space the floor and rebound.
In the 2023-24 season Furphy averaged 9.0 points and 4.9 rebounds on 46.6 percent shooting from the field and 35.2 percent shooting from deep. Furphy could need some time to adjust to the NBA game. He is only 202 pounds at 6’8″, so he would need to grow into an NBA body.
All things considered, three-point shooting and providing space around Barnes, Barrett and Quickley is of importance. The Raptors will need role players to knock down open threes.
There is a lot to consider at No. 19 and the Raptors could go in many different ways. However, Furphy could become a prospect worth looking at. If he and Dick are able to reconnect, they could form an interesting pairing from off the bench.
Sam Vecenie of The Athletic takes Johnny Furphy at No. 19 in latest mock draft
Sam Vecenie of The Athletic did a mock draft on his Game Theory Podcast, where he selected Furphy at No. 19.
He mentioned that the Raptors need to surround Barnes with dribble, pass and shoot guys.
