It’s been a quiet few weeks for the Toronto Raptors, but things are about to pick up.
Once the 2024 NBA Finals are over, it’s into the busy offseason as the countdown to training camp will officially begin.
Here are the important upcoming dates for the Raptors this offseason.
NBA Draft: June 26-27
The Raptors will have picks No. 19 and No. 31 in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.
For the first time ever the NBA will have a two-day draft event. Night one of the draft is set for June 26th at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY. Picks 1-30 will be made.
Night two of the draft is set for June 27th at ESPN’s Studios. Picks 31-58 will be made, which means the Raptors will kickoff the second day of the draft by making their second-round selection. There are usually 60 picks total in the NBA Draft, however this year there are two less, after the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns both lost picks for violating league rules.
Free Agency: June 30-July 6 and on
Each NBA team is allowed to start negotiating with free agents on June 30 beginning at 6 p.m. ET. This is when all of the news happens. The contracts are then made official starting on July 6th.
The Raptors biggest priority this free agency will be locking up Immanuel Quickley who is a restricted free agent. This means the Raptors hold Quickley’s negotiating rights and can match any offer he gets from another team.
Summer League: July 12-22
Then it’s off to Las Vegas for Summer League. This is where the NBA’s newest rookies get to shine.
Rosters are mostly comprised of rookies along with some second or third year players. This is an opportunity for players to make a good impression ahead of training camp.
Summer Olympics: July 27-Aug 11
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in Paris. Basketball at the Olympics will be a showcase event and will feature a lot of NBA talent.
Raptors players RJ Barrett and Kelly Olynyk will be suiting up for Team Canada. Joining them will be the likes of Jamal Murray, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and many more. This will be the most stacked Canadian men’s national basketball team ever.
