The Toronto Raptors will have their work cut out for them at the 2024 NBA Draft.
They will have to deliver on picks No. 19 and No. 31 if they want to speed up their rebuild.
At No. 19 the Raptors can go in many different directions. They can elect to draft a big, a wing or go after some shooting help.
David Cobb of CBS Sports released his latest mock draft and he has the Raptors taking Johnny Furphy out of Kansas with their first-round pick:
“Furphy blossomed into a key player for Kansas as his freshman season progressed. He needs a couple years in an NBA strength training program before he’s ready to withstand rigors of the league. But he’s got a sweet jumper and a chance at developing into an NBA starter.”
The Raptors drafted fellow Kansas Jayhawk Gradey Dick in the 2023 NBA Draft, so it would be interesting if they decide to go with another Jayhawk this year.
As a freshman, Furphy averaged 9.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 24.1 minutes per game. Furphy did not compete in scrimmages at the NBA Draft Combine earlier this month, but he did participate in some drills. He stood out during the three-point shooting drill, making 12 shots in a row during one stretch. He measured in at 6-foot-7.5 without shoes with a 6-foot-8 wingspan.
Furphy started the season with Kansas coming off the bench. Then he earned a starting role in the middle of January. Furphy flourished as a starter. Over his first seven starts, Kansas went 5-2 and Furphy averaged 14.4 points per game on 60.7 percent shooting from the field and 51.5 percent shooting from deep. He also put up 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 32 minutes per game. The Raptors are in need of more shooting and Furphy would certainly help.
ESPN projects Kyshawn George to Raptors at No. 19
There have been many prospects linked to the Raptors over the past couple of weeks.
One player who has been mentioned as a potential pick for Toronto is Kyshawn George out of Miami. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo put out their latest mock draft and Givony has the Raptors taking him.
