The Toronto Raptors have until June 29th to pick up Bruce Brown’s team option.

Brown is set to earn $23 million next season.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Toronto is reportedly expected to pick up Brown’s team option:

“The Toronto Raptors have several offseason items ahead, including figuring out how much restricted free agent Immanuel Quickley will command on the market, whether to pick up Bruce Brown’s $23 million team option, and whether to retain Gary Trent Jr. in free agency. Toronto is expected to exercise the $23 million team option on Bruce Brown, league sources told HoopsHype, echoing a report from the Toronto Star. Doing so will make Brown a noteworthy trade chip in the final year of his contract for contending playoff-caliber teams to monitor.”

This echoes the previous report from Doug Smith of the Toronto Star. Smith reported the Raptors are likely to pick up the option, then turn around and trade the 27-year-old soon after instead of waiting until the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.

The Raptors tried to deal Brown at the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline, but they were unable to get a first-round pick in return. If the market opens up for Brown, the Raptors could get more for him from a contending team looking to add Brown going into next season.

If the Raptors do pick up Brown’s team option then it seems likely the Raptors will not be prioritizing cap space for this summer.

The Raptors declining Brown’s option and not bringing back Gary Trent Jr., would create just less than $30 million in cap space this offseason, per Sports Illustrated’s Aaron Rose.

The Raptors acquired Brown from the Indiana Pacers in the Pascal Siakam trade on Jan. 17. Brown averaged 9.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 34 games for the Raptors. He shot it 48.1 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from deep.

Raptors take Yves Missi in HoopsHype’s mock draft

The Toronto Raptors will have the No. 19 pick in the first-round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype released his mock draft and he has Toronto taking Yves Missi out of Baylor with the pick.
