Former Toronto Raptors forward O.G. Anunoby is set to get paid this summer.
He is reportedly expected to get $35 million annually on a multi-year deal, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.
Anunoby is expected to decline his player option and become a free agent, which will allow him to sign for that amount.
The Knicks can sign Anunoby to a contract worth up to $245 million over five years, should New York be forced to offer him a maximum contract.
The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly interested in Anunoby and could make him a big offer. Anunoby played under Nick Nurse with the Raptors.
The Knicks traded for Anunoby last year when they sent RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and the No. 31 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft (via the Detroit Pistons) to the Raptors.
The trade so far has worked out well for both teams. The Raptors now have a nice young trio of Scottie Barnes, Barrett and Quickley. Meanwhile, the Knicks were 20-3 with Anunoby during the regular season.
New York made the Eastern Conference Semifinals, but they fell short to the Indiana Pacers. Unfortunately, Anunoby suffered a hamstring injury in Game 2. He tried to suit up for Game 7, but after 5 minutes of action he was forced to sit out the rest of the game due to his hamstring still bothering him.
Expect the Knicks to do whatever it takes to lock up Anunoby this offseason.
