It was a great third year leap for Toronto Raptors rising star Scottie Barnes.

After the Raptors decided to move off from Pascal Siakam and O.G. Anunoby, Barnes was moved into the spotlight. Which created some excitement amongst the fanbase as they wanted to see him as the face of the franchise.

In 60 games, he proved how great he can be by averaging 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists on 47.5 percent shooting from the field and 34.1 percent from three.

However, after the All-Star break, Barnes unfortunately suffered a hand injury that sidelined him indefinitely. Now, he gets a lengthy offseason to recover and prepare for a full season as the No. 1 option.

Since sustaining his injury over two months ago, Barnes provided an update during a livestream on Twitch, via masaihesi:

“I think I have about 10 screws in my hand. I got a plate on it so I don’t know if it’s going to go down but that’s just how it is…people thought I broke my hand on the rim. I don’t know why they thought that. It was a freak accident to be honest.”

Barnes’ hand injury was truly a freak accident and squashed a possible run at the Play-In Tournament for the Raptors.

While it stung to see Barnes suffer a significant injury, this rebuild will take some time and there is no rush for him to return. However, his hand will be something worth monitoring as training camp and games take place.

Hopefully, this isn’t something that lingers and limits Barnes from playing at a high level going into next season.

Scottie Barnes was excited to watch Pascal Siakam and O.G. Anunoby square off in playoffs

Despite missing the postseason, it allowed for Barnes to recover from his surgery.

With the playoffs going on, the second-round featured Siakam and Anunoby facing off for the first-time as opponents. Something that Barnes was excited to watch play out as a spectator.
