Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) has reportedly filed a lawsuit.

They are seeking $3 million in damages after a small fire occurred during a Raptors game at Scotiabank Arena in 2022.

The Raptors were taking on the Indiana Pacers:

Fans evacuated the building with 4:05 remaining in the first-half. A spokesperson described the incident as a “small electrical fire” above section 103.

The Raptors game resumed following a half-hour delay after Toronto firefighters put out the fire.

The remainder of the game was played without fans in the building. The Raptors beat the Pacers 131-91. Even though the building was evacuated, some team employees, game operations workers and media were allowed to stay in the building.

Ticket holders were given full refunds. There were no injuries reported.

According to the Toronto Star, Danger Boy, an Ontario corporation registered in Jerseyville, is named as the defendant in the suit.

An MLSE spokesperson said that the lawsuit involves third-party companies and the company contracted to provide pyrotechnics for the Raptors game, per the Toronto Star.

MLSE claimed that it “sustained extensive losses and damages, including the costs to inspect, clean, repair, rebuild and/or replace damages caused by the incident, and to rent the substitute equipment,” per the Toronto Star.

Masai Ujiri studying the Magic’s rebuild

The Toronto Raptors are trying to get back to contention. The team tore it down this past season and officially entered a rebuild.

Raptors team president Masai Ujiri knows it will take time. However, he is eager to get back to a winning culture in Toronto.

Ujiri said that he has been studying the Orlando Magic’s rebuild as the Raptors hope to replicate their success.
