The Toronto Raptors have work to do.
Coming off a disappointing 25-57 season the Raptors will look to bolster their roster through the draft and free agency. They could also look to make some more trades to shake things up.
Toronto made many trades during the 2023-24 season, which officially entered them in a rebuild.
Bleacher Report recent put out an article looking at trade ideas for every team that missed the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
Their trade idea for the Raptors is quite interesting. They have Toronto acquiring another Canadian.
The trade they proposed is Toronto trading their 2026 second-round pick (top-44 protection) to the Golden State Warriors for Andrew Wiggins.
This would basically be a salary dump for the Warriors as offloading Wiggins’ $26.3 million salary would give them flexibility in the offseason.
Meanwhile, this would only work for the Raptors if they decline Bruce Brown’s team option, while carrying Immanuel Quickley’s cap hold and renouncing all of their other free agents. That would leave the Raptors with a little more than $28 million in space.
However, it seems very unlikely that the Raptors would willing to use the vast majority of that and absorb the three years and $84.7 million remaining on Wiggins’ contract.
Wiggins is injury prone and at 29-years-old he wouldn’t make sense in the Raptors rebuild.
Pairing Wiggins with fellow Canadians RJ Barrett and Kelly Olynyk would be interesting, but the Raptors need to do what’s right for the franchise.
A young team like Toronto shouldn’t be tied to bad contracts going forward. Therefore, this trade idea from Bleacher Report should be a hard pass from the Raptors.
Toronto teases bringing back classic purple dinosaur jerseys for 30th anniversary season
This upcoming season for the Raptors will mark their 30th anniversary.
Something that has been a talking point for several years now is bringing back the classic purple dinosaur jerseys that Vince Carter wore during his tenure with the Raptors.
That may finally be happening as they were teased at the end of the latest episode of Open Gym.
