The 2024 NBA Draft is the next step for the Toronto Raptors in their rebuild.
After securing the sixth-worst record in the league, the ping pong balls need to fall in the favor of Toronto. If so, they will select with the No. 6 pick and add another young piece to their young core.
With a 46 percent chance of making this happen, it should make for a nerve wracking experience for fans. Regardless, the Raptors will be adding some sort of talent during the draft despite what happens with the draft lottery.
Kyle Boone of CBS Sports predicts Toronto maintaining the No. 6 pick and taking Ron Holland from the G-League Ignite.
In 14 games with the Ignite, Holland is averaging 19.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists on 44.3 percent from the field and 24 percent from three-point range. A lengthy 6’8″ forward who can apply rim pressure and defend, averaging 2.5 steals, but his shooting needs to improve.
In addition to Holland, Boone has the Raptors taking Tyler Kolek out of Marquette with the No. 19 pick via the Indiana Pacers.
Kolek is a 6’3″ guard, who averaged 15.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.7 assists on 38.8 percent from 3. An impressive statline and could be a viable backup guard behind Immanuel Quickley. A 23-year-old, who can space the floor while being able to facilitate at a high level to keep players involved.
Boone mentions how he likes Kolek’s competitive edge and swagger, which could prove to be a quality rotation piece for head coach Darko Rajakovic.
In a draft that is deemed to be not filled with a ton of star level talent, this works better for Toronto. Being able to surround Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett and Quickley will complimentary pieces is the way to go.
