The Toronto Raptors have their sights set on the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.
Toronto could have three picks in this year’s draft if they end up keeping their own first-round pick, which is top-6 protected. They currently have a 45.8 percent chance of doing so.
Having three picks in the top 31 of the draft would be huge for a Raptors team that is rebuilding.
Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report recently put out his latest mock draft and he has the Raptors taking three guards.
First, Wasserman has the Raptors keeping their pick and taking guard Stephon Castle from Connecticut at No. 6. Castle had a strong national title run with the Huskies. He showed off his scoring versatility, playmaking and defense. Castle’s shooting will be a question mark coming into the NBA but he has shown that he can impact games in other ways. He is unselfish with the basketball and is always looking to make winning plays.
Next Wasserman has the Raptors taking Terrence Shannon Jr. of Illinois at No. 17 via the Indiana Pacers. Front offices will have to look into his rape allegations which will be the most important part of the predraft. Illinois recently dropped its investigation as they cited insufficient evidence. However, a criminal case in Kansas remains open and Shannon will have a hearing on May 10. He averaged 23.0 points and 2.4 threes per game this past season.
Finally, Wasserman has the Raptors taking Jaylon Tyson out of California at No. 31 via the Detroit Pistons. He had a breakout season with the Golden Bears averaging 19.6 points and 3.5 assists per game. He looks like a capable scorer with nice ball-handling and playmaking skills. At 6’7″ he would give the Raptors some nice size at the position.
Masai Ujiri weighs in on 2024 NBA Draft
Recently, Raptors basketball of operations Masai Ujiri opened up about the upcoming NBA Draft.
Even if the Raptors lose out on their first-round this year, Ujiri said the team will remain happy knowing that they would have their first-round pick next year.
