The Toronto Raptors head into the offseason with many important things to address.
Their biggest priority this summer will be locking up guard Immanuel Quickley who is a restricted free agent.
The Raptors acquired Quickley along with RJ Barrett and a 2024 second-round pick (via Detroit) from the New York Knicks in exchange for O.G. Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn in December.
Quickley immediately made his mark on the Raptors and showed why he is the point guard of the future.
Since Quickley is a restricted free agent, the Raptors can match any offer that comes his way.
It is possible that a team with a lot of cap space like the San Antonio Spurs or Detroit Pistons could go after Quickley and make him a big offer. This would force the Raptors to match the deal.
Quickley is eligible for a five-year extension and it is likely to be around $150 million. As Michael Grange reports it could be for as much as $204.5 million if the Raptors wanted to offer Quickley the maximum he is eligible for.
Quickley made it clear that he loves being in Toronto ahead of his free agency via his press conference at the Raptors locker room clean out day:
“Absolutely love Toronto, since the day I got here they’ve done nothing but show me love. Love is an action word. It’s not just something you just throw around. They’ve done that from the day I’ve got here to today so obviously the team and my agent have to handle everything but I love being here in Toronto. Absolutely.”
The 24-year-old has only scratched the surface on how good he can become. Expect the Raptors to do whatever it takes to lock Quickley up long-term.
RJ Barrett says he is a good fit in Toronto
RJ Barrett is also a big piece of the Raptors newly formed young core.
Barrett has performed well in his Raptors tenure so far and he has been a good fit with the team.
