The Toronto Raptors’ 2023-24 season is coming to a close, and while it has been a massive disappointment of a year, hope is high in Toronto for the coming years. But before they can get to that, they first have to finish this season, and they do so with a three-game road trip that begins in New York against the Brooklyn Nets.

The story of the second half of the 2023-24 season for the Raptors has been everyone that is unable to play. Scottie Barnes (hand), Jakob Poeltl (hand), Chris Boucher (knee), D.J. Carton (ankle), Jontay Porter (gambling scandal) have all been unavailable for significant time. Luckily, the Raptors should have everyone else in the lineup, with the one exception being Gradey Dick, who missed Tuesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers and is considered day-to-day with a groin injury.

Immanuel Quickley sat out the first night of the back-to-back for rest, meaning the Raptors could do the same on the second night with players like RJ Barrett or Gary Trent Jr., but they have not made any announcements in either direction.

The Nets, meanwhile, have a pretty exhaustive injury report of their own. Rookie Dariq Whitehead, Ben Simmons, Keita Bates-Diop, Dennis Smith Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith and Jaylen Martin are all ruled out for Wednesday’s game.

At this stage of the season, this game means very little to either of these teams. The Nets don’t have a pick to play for, as their first round pick is going to the Houston Rockets this season courtesy of the James Harden trade. Meanwhile, the Raptors are only one loss away from clinching the NBA’s sixth-worst record and the best possible odds of retaining their 2024 first-round pick.

Ron began watching basketball when he was 6 years old, in 2005, when Bryant was dragging the likes of Smush Parker and Ronny Turiaf to playoff spots. Ron's all time favorite Lakers moment was Bryant's final game when he dropped 60 points. While the Lakers beating the Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, as Metta World Peace hit the game clinching three, will always be a top option, Bryant's final night takes the cake.
