The Toronto Raptors could have up to three picks in this upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.
They have the Indiana Pacers 2024 first-round pick via the Pascal Siakam trade. Plus they have the New York Knicks second-round pick (via Detroit) via the O.G. Anunoby trade.
If the Raptors finish within the top 6 of the NBA Draft Lottery then they will keep their own top-six protected 2024 first-round pick which is owed to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Raptors are reportedly keeping and eye on one of college basketball’s biggest names.
Toronto is said to be among the multiple teams who have scouted Bronny James ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft, Shams Charania reported on The Pat McAfee Show.
Other teams who have scouted Bronny include the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat.
Bronny is the eldest son of LeBron James. He is currently a freshman at USC. Bronny had a setback this past summer when the 19-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest in July. It stemmed from a congenital heart defect.
Bronny has played in 17 games this year averaging 5.9 points per game.
LeBron has expressed his desire to play alongside his son one day. This potentially creates an incentive for a team to draft his son early.
Bronny is currently not considered a top prospect. Nor is he projected to be taken in the first-round. However, a team could take a shot on him early if it means getting his father LeBron as well.
Bronny to Toronto?
The Raptors could create over $30 million by renouncing the rights to Gary Trent Jr. and Bruce Brown Jr. while signing Kelly Olynyk to an extension. They could also look to trade Chris Boucher or Jalen McDaniels to clear up more cap space per Sports Illustrated Aaron Rose.
However, it is still unlikely that the Raptors will be able to clear up max money for LeBron, if he decides to opt-out of his deal with the Lakers.
If the Raptors do take a chance on drafting Bronny in hopes of luring LeBron, it would likely be with their second-round pick which is projected to be No. 31.
