The All-Star break is here as the Toronto Raptors get some time to reset mentally and physically.

While it has been a rough season in terms of their record, seeing the young talent grow and develop is a bright spot for Toronto. Especially with Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett and Scottie Barnes leading the charge.

Luckily, the Raptors G League affiliate, Raptors 905 is another avenue of developing these young players. The G League is now viewed as a crucial tool for teams to find new talent.

A player for the 905 that is gaining traction is two-way guard Markquis Nowell. The G League is hosting their version of the All-Star game with the Up Next Game on Feb. 18. Nowell is the first 905 player to be voted into this game. He was extremely grateful about the selection via Zulfi Sheikh of Sportsnet:

“It’s a blessing. Being a rookie and being in the G League, it’s a great experience and to be names one of the top guys in the G League…it’s a testament to my hard work and I’m truly happy.”

Currently, Nowell’s status for the game is uncertain. The guard is battling a lingering hamstring injury, but he will be in attendance regardless if he plays or not.

Nowell is the starting point guard for the 905 and is averaging 15.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 8.9 assists, tied for third in the G League. He is certainly making a name for himself and seems to be developing nicely.

Coming into the NBA, the 24-year-old was not shy about his ambitious goals for his career. He went as far to say he will be the best player to ever wear a Raptors jersey.

This a great historic moment for the 905 and Nowell, which is great to see as he begins his NBA journey. As the Raptors navigate through this rebuild, it’ll be intriguing to see if he gets an extended look.

Markquis Nowell makes NBA debut against Bucks

Dating back to the early stages of the season, Nowell made his debut for the Raptors.

It was back on Nov. 15 against the Milwaukee Bucks at Scotiabank Arena. While only playing four minutes, he was able to score his first NBA bucket.
