The Toronto Raptors have struck a second deal hours before the NBA Trade Deadline.

Approaching a rebuild, Masai Ujiri is clearing off some future salary.

Toronto is sending Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets for Spencer Dinwiddie, per Adrian Wojnarowski:

The Raptors are getting back 30-year-old Dinwiddie, who is currently on an expiring $18.5 million contract. However, he is having a tough year averaging 12.6 points and 6 assists on 39.1 percent from the field and 32 percent from the three-point line.

This seems to be a salary move as Schroder signed a two-year, $26 million contract with Toronto in free agency. It remains to be seen if Dinwiddie will suit up for the Raptors, whether that be another trade or buyout.

In 51 games, Schroder averaged 13.7 points and 6.1 assists on 44.2 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range. He was productive throughout his stint in Toronto, becoming a key bench piece when Immanuel Quickley came into town from the O.G. Anunoby trade.

For the Raptors, this makes sense as clearing off long-term money makes sense. Schroder at 31-years-old does not fit the timeline and is logical to make off of him.

If Dinwiddie does ultimately suit up for Toronto, it’ll be for the short-term as he will not be a part of the team past this season.

With limited time left in the deadline, moves still may be on the horizon as Bruce Brown Jr. has yet to find a new home.

Overall, it is a successful deadline for Toronto so far. They have cleared future cap space and acquiring a young talent in Ochai Agbaji. But also decided to bring in a veteran in Kelly Olynyk by moving off one of their 2024 first-round picks, which seems to be a weak class.

Time still left in the trade deadline

The trade deadline is set to expire at 3:00 p.m. ET. The Raptors may not be done dealing with less than two hours left to make a trade.
