The trade deadline is on Feb. 8 and the Toronto Raptors are at the center of discussion.
Despite trading Pascal Siakam and O.G. Anunoby, Toronto is still expected to make more moves.
Bruce Brown seems to be the most prominent player to be moved. Brown, coming off a championship last season, does not fit the Raptors timeline.
Now entering a rebuild, it makes sense for Masai Ujiri to try and add more draft capital. Ujiri and company seem to believe Brown could warrant a first-round pick, but it remains to be seen if a team will offer one.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on his podcast, ‘The Woj Pod’ he believes that Brown will ‘very likely’ be moved ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks continue to be mentioned as the likeliest destinations.
As the deadline approaches, it will be intriguing to see if either the Lakers or Knicks cough up a first-round pick.
After cashing in on a payday with the Indiana Pacers this summer, Brown has a $23 million team option for the 2024-25 season, which becomes an important decision for the Raptors if they decide to keep him.
Pressure will mount for playoff teams to make additions to their respective roster. Brown is set to be at the forefront of many discussions. He has shown his ability to fit in any system and succeed around the stars, which is a great quality to have.
The Knicks and Raptors could iron out another deal as New York has some first-round picks to offer. This is plausible as the Knicks prepare for a potential kong playoff run.
It makes sense for Toronto to move off from Brown sooner rather than later. It’ll be interesting to see if a deal gets done soon.
Bruce Brown is Plan B or C for Knicks
Since acquiring Anunoby, the Knicks have been streaking and look like a dangerous team in the Eastern Conference.
It seems like New York is still looking to add to their roster, but Brown is not necessarily a top priority for them right now.
