Toronto Raptors wing RJ Barrett laughed off some criticism that was directed at him by Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony was on his 7PM in Brooklyn show, and he called Barrett “just a bland player.”
He talked about Barrett being bland in terms of his personality and consistency with his game:
“He’s just a bland player bro. That’s not a shot. That’s not disrespect. I ask a lot of…Knicks fans…it’s just like, he’s good, he get it done sometimes, but he’s not an exciting player. You don’t know if he got 4 or 26.”

Barrett took the high road and laughed off the comments calling them “funny” per the New York Post’s Peter Botte and Stefan Bondy.
He even acknowledged that Anthony was right about him:
“Because the next day I had four points. The game before I had 24, so he was almost right. He’s a Hall of Famer, man.”
Barrett first referenced his performance in the Raptors 145-113 loss to the Utah Jazz on Jan 12. He shot 2-of-9 from the floor and finished with four points. Two nights prior to that, he had 24 points in a loss to the Los Angles Clippers.
Therefore, that was spot on with Anthony’s criticism. However, Barrett seems to be a cool sport about it and he seems excited to be playing with his new team the Raptors.
Raptors tenure with the Raptors
Overall, Barrett has been much more consistent with Toronto. His 4-point performance against the Jazz is the only bad game of his Raptors tenure so far.
Barrett has shown a lot of good things since being traded from the New York Knicks and perhaps the 23-year-old is ready to take the next step in his career with the Raptors.
