The Toronto Raptors have made two significant trades in less than a month.
First they traded O.G. Anunoby to the Knicks which landed them Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett. Two young core pieces that have already fit in nicely alongside Scottie Barnes.
Then the Raptors traded two-time All-Star Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers for Bruce Brown Jr., Kira Lewis Jr., Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks.
With these two big huge trades, the Raptors have made it clear that they are building around Barnes.
There is still three more weeks to go before the Feb. 8 trade deadline and the Raptors could be looking to do more.
Masai Ujiri addressed the media following the Siakam trade and when asked about if more trades are coming before the deadline he said “yeah definitely.”
Shams Charania recently spoke about his expectations on what the Raptors will do on Run It Back and mentioned some players on Toronto’s roster who could be moved before Feb. 8:
“Bruce Brown Jr., Gary Trent Jr., Dennis Schroder…those are the main guys that will generate interest for the Raptors. I think there’s going to be significant interest in Bruce Brown Jr. If they want to trade him now, they’re not going to have a shortage of suitors.
Charania mentioned that Toronto could get a first-round pick or a boat load of second-round picks for Brown.
Will the Raptors make more deals?
With the Raptors in a rebuild and given Ujiri’s latest comments, it does seem very likely that more deals are coming soon.
As Charania mentioned Brown will have a lot of interest and the Raptors could look to add to their collection of draft picks.
Trent Jr. is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He and the Raptors were said to be nearing an extension this past summer but it never panned out. Toronto could look to trade Trent Jr. to a contender.
Also, trading Schroder makes sense because he is a veteran guard who doesn’t fit the Raptors long-term plans. He can be a key backup point guard on a team looking to make a deep playoff run.
