The Toronto Raptors shook up their roster when they traded O.G. Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn to the New York Knicks for Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett and a 2024 second-round pick (via Detroit).

The Raptors now have a bright future with Quickley, Barrett and Scottie Barnes leading the way.

When Masai Ujiri traded Anunoby he put an emphasis on getting back young players with star upside in return over first-round picks.

According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times in an article examining Dejounte Murray’s trade value, the Raptors wanted both Quickley and Barrett in the deal for Anunoby instead of a first-round pick.

The Atlanta Hawks wanted Immanuel Quickley and a 1st-round pick from the Knicks in exchange for Dejounte Murray, per @DanWoikeSports

The Raptors are reportedly looking to do the same in a potential Pascal Siakam trade. The Raptors want back young players with star upside.

This suggests that Masai Ujiri is more interested in a retool rather than a full on rebuild.

Barrett and Quickley have already been solid contributors as starters for the Raptors. Barrett exploded for 37 points in a big win over the Golden State Warriors, while Quickley had a 25 point outburst in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Both players are still very young and will continue to grow alongside Barnes.

If Ujiri gets back a similar return for Siakam, then Toronto will set themselves nicely over the long haul.

Raptors want a key young piece from Pacers

Siakam’s name continues to be in trade rumors and one team that has popped up as a potential suitor is the Indiana Pacers.

The Raptors reportedly want Bennedict Mathurin or Jarace Walker in any trade with the Pacers that involves Siakam.
