Pascal Siakam continues to be in trade rumors.
After the Raptors traded O.G. Anunoby, it is reportedly believed that the Raptors could now look to move on from Siakam.
He is an unrestricted free agent this summer. So rather than run the risk of potentially losing him for nothing, the Raptors could look to cash in on a deal for him.
The Raptors and Siakam are believed to be “on the verge of parting ways,” per Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes.
It has been reported that there’s a high likelihood that Siakam is moved ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Haynes did mention that Siakam’s contract situation is making things more difficult to trade him since he is about to head into unrestricted free agency this summer.
The Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors have been the teams connected to the Raptors forward.
The Raptors can still offer Siakam a four-year extension worth up to $192 million.
If he’s traded however, he wouldn’t be eligible for a four-year contract. Also, he couldn’t sign a four-year deal until unrestricted free agency.
Per Sam Amick, Siakam is seeking a full-term, max-salary deal no matter where he ultimately lands.
Therefore, if a team trades for Siakam before the deadline they would run the risk of potentially losing him in the summer.
Siakam has spent his entire career with the Raptors. He is a two-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA and won a championship with the franchise in 2019.
If the Raptors move on from him it would truly usher in a new era in Toronto.
Siakam linked to the Warriors
One team that has recently been linked to Siakam is the Golden State Warriors.
According to Shams Charania, the Warriors have a level of interest in him.
This has created an interesting possibility of the Warriors and Raptors potentially getting a deal done.
