The Toronto Raptors might not be done when it comes to making trades.
The team officially kicked off trade season when they shipped off O.G. Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn to the New York Knicks for Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett and a second-round pick (via Detroit).
Since the trade happened, there has been a ton of speculation surrounding Pascal Siakam and if Toronto will trade him next.
League sources believe that Toronto will move him before the trade deadline.
If the Raptors do trade Siakam, it appears they have a clear agenda of what they want back in return.
According to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg, the Raptors want young players back with star upside:
“The Raptors have indicated that they won’t consider offers centred on draft compensation – those packages are out there, as they were for Anunoby, but Toronto is targeting young players with star upside.”
It seems like Toronto is more interested in retooling than rebuilding at this point. They got back young players with star upside in the trade for Anunoby bringing in Quickley and Barrett.
If this is what the Raptors want in return then maybe the Raptors could get a deal done with the Golden State Warriors. They have some disgruntled young pieces right now in Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.
Or maybe Toronto could get Bennedict Mathurin in a deal with the Indiana Pacers.
Another team with the type of assets the Raptors are looking for is the Sacramento Kings. However, they pulled out of trade talks. The Kings in all likelihood didn’t want to give up Keegan Murray and that is the young player with tremendous upside the Raptors probably targeted.
Will the Raptors strike another deal?
It will be interesting to see if Toronto does get a deal done for Siakam and if they are able to get back a similar package to the one they got for Anunoby.
It is clear that Masai Ujiri is serious about reconstructing this Raptors team and bringing in players that fit alongside Scottie Barnes.
