When the Toronto Raptors replaced Fred VanVleet with Dennis Schroder there was doubt that he could fill the void VanVleet left behind.

Schroder had big shoes to fill coming in as the team’s new starting point. However, through the first 19 games of the season Schroder has done an excellent job as the Raptors floor general.

Schroder has not only had some nice offensive outbursts, but he’s become one of the top assist getters in the NBA.

Schroder is top 10 in the NBA in assists and he already has five 10-assist games this season:

Dennis Schroder 10-assist games:

5 — this season
4 — last season

The most impressive part about Schroder’s playmaking is that he is taking care of the basketball:

Dennis Schroder has 21 assists & 0 turnovers in his last two games.

That’s the most assists without a turnover in a 2-game span by a Raptor since Jose Calderon in 2008.

Schroder is coming off a season-high 12 assists against the Phoenix Suns. He made many incredible passes including this nutmeg pass on Kevin Durant:

Not to mention he had a clutch bucket late in the fourth quarter on Jusuf Nurkic sealing the win for the Raptors.

Schroder has been impactful for Toronto

For the season Schroder is averaging 16.2 points and 6.9 assists on 1.8 turnovers per game. Schroder has been playing some of the best basketball of his career. It’s still early but the Raptors signing Schroder looks like one of the best signings from the offseason.

His court vision has been tremendous and he has been able to set the table nicely for his teammates. While his scoring and shooting numbers have been inconsistent, Schroder continues to deliver when it comes to being a true point guard.

His assist/turnover ratio proves just how effective of a point guard Schroder has been so far this season.
