Dennis Schroder has gotten off to a nice start for the Raptors.
He has been thriving as the team’s new starting point guard and has done a solid job of setting up his teammates.
Schroder has nearly averaged a double-double with his points and assists. He’s among the NBA assists leaders:
2023-2024 NBA Assists Leaders:
73 – Trae Young
70 – Tyrese Haliburton
67 – Nikola Jokić
62 – Luka Dončić

For the season Schroder is averaging 16.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and a staggering 8.9 assists. What’s even more impressive is Schroder is shooting it 46.2 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three.
Coming into this season there was a concern about Schroder’s three-point shooting. He’s a career 33.8 percent shooter from downtown and right now he’s well above that average.
Schroder is also currently averaging double his career assists total.
The Raptors couldn’t have asked for a better start from Schroder. There was a lot of skepticism after the team lost Fred VanVleet in free agency to the Houston Rockets.
However, Schroder has come in and he has delivered. Aside from Scottie Barnes, he has been the most consistent Raptors player on the team.
He has already had three games where he’s scored 20 or more points. Also, Schroder has 4 double-doubles on the season with points and assists.
Schroder came into this season with a ton of momentum. He led Team Germany to a gold medal and won the 2023 FIBA World Cup MVP.
He looks comfortable playing under Darko Rajakovic. Schroder played under Darko Rajakovic in Oklahoma City when Rajakovic was an assistant coach in the 2018-19 season.
Schroder’s contract is looking like a real bargain
The Raptors are hoping Schroder can continue his hot play.
The Raptors signed him to a two-year $26 million deal this summer and right now it’s looking like a huge bargain. Schroder might be well on his way to being the steal of the 2023 offseason.
Schroder will play in his eight game as a Raptor when the team travels to Dallas to take on the Mavericks on Nov. 8.
