The Raptors have filled up their training camp roster.

The Raptors announced Saturday that they have signed G Leaguer Makur Maker.

According to Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy, Maker has been signed to an Exhibit 10 deal. It’s a minimum, non-guaranteed deal:

The Raptors have signed Makur Maker.

Yet another one of the Exhibit 10 deals aimed to get a 905-bound guy the Ex10 bonus down the line.

Maker played for the Washigton Wizard G League affiliate, Capital City Go-Go during the 2022-23 season.

In 30 games last season in the G league, the undrafted centre averaged 7.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists over 20.6 minutes.

The Raptors will have Media Day on Oct. 2. Then they will fly out to British Columbia for training camp on Oct 3.

Meanwhile, the Raptors missed out on another potential target. The Raptors were rumored to be in the mix for Jrue Holiday after he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the Raptors rivals Boston Celtics acquired Holiday.

The Celtics respond to the Milwaukee Bucks making the trade for Damian Lillard with a big move of their own:

The Celtics had to give up Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon a 2024 1st-round pick and 2029 1st-round pick. Quite a haul to give up, but the Celtics are serious about competing with the Bucks this season.

The Celtics and Bucks have now established themselves as the clear two best teams in the East.

Where the Raptors stand in the East now?

After losing Fred VanVleet to free agency to the Houston Rockets, the Raptors were involved in a ton of trade rumors. First it was believed that the Raptors would ship Pascal Siakam. The Atlanta Hawks had reported interest, but nothing happened.

Then the Raptors were the frontrunners for Damian Lillard, but nothing happened.

The Raptors believe in their current group and will roll the dice with them this season.

The Bucks and Celtics are the clear two best teams in the East. However, after these two teams the East appears to be more wide open than a season ago. The Philadelphia 76ers have a ton of question marks around James Harden, the Miami Heat didn’t make a big move and will teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets regress?

There could be an opportunity for some play-in teams from a year ago to get into the top 6 this season.
