Toronto Raptors rookie Ja’Kobe Walter will miss the start of training camp.
Walter sprained his acromioclavicular joint during informal workouts this week and he will not participate in on-court activities during the start of training camp which begins on Oct. 1, according to Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy.
The team will provide an update on Walter’s status after next week. It’s unclear if Walter will miss the Raptors first preseason game set for Oct. 6 against the Washington Wizards.
This is not the news the Raptors wanted to receive before camp. Walter was selected No. 19 overall by the Raptors in the 2024 NBA Draft. He averaged 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 37.6 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three at Baylor last year. Walter was named the Big 12 Freshman of the year.
Even if Walter is ready to go for the start of the season, expect the Raptors to proceed with caution and take things slow with the 20-year-old.
This now means that the Raptors will be without two guards once training camp opens up. Bruce Brown is also going to miss some time following surgery on his right knee. Therefore, Gradey Dick and Ochai Agbaji will get plenty of reps in training camp as Toronto looks to finalize their starting shooting guard for opening night.
Toronto will have a full roster of 21 players entering camp. They have DJ Carton, Ulrich Chomche and Branden Carlson on two-way contracts. Jared Rhoden and Jamison Battle on Exhibit 10 contracts. Also, Bruno Fernando and Jahmi’us Ramsey are on standard non-guaranteed minimum contracts. Both players will be battling for a spot on this roster for this season.
Raptors sign Jahmi’us Ramsey to finalize training camp roster
The Toronto Raptors have made another signing to finalize their training camp roster.
Toronto has reportedly signed Jahmi’us Ramsey to a non-guaranteed minimum contract, per Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy.
