The Toronto Raptors kick off their Summer League schedule today against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Las Vegas.
This is the first time Ja’Kobe Walter, Jonathan Mogbo, Jamal Shead and Ulrich Chomche will get their first taste of NBA action.
Las Vegas presents an opportunity for coaches, scouts and front office members to watch their respective teams and evaluate talent.
After falling out of the lottery, Toronto selected at No. 19 in the 2024 NBA Draft, where they selected Walter. A freshman guard out of Baylor, who averaged 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Something to monitor tonight and throughout Summer League is Walter’s shooting efficiency. He shot 37.6 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three-point range.
Meanwhile, Shead is coming off averaging 12.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists on 40.9 percent from the field and 30.9 percent from deep last season with Houston. Throughout his four seasons there, he proceeded to improve in the scoring department and hopefully that can continue at the NBA level.
Then for Mogbo, he is an intriguing center prospect out of San Francisco. He averaged 14.2 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 63.6 percent shooting from the field.
With Toronto needing a third string backup big, Mogbo could earn an opportunity there should he display his talents in Las Vegas. Having a double-double center that is athletic is a skillset that can still be useful in today’s NBA.
Overall, there is a lot to look out for in this Las Vegas debut for the Raptors.
