It appears DeMar DeRozan’s time with the Chicago Bulls is coming to an end.
The former Toronto Raptors All-Star will not re-sign with the Bulls this summer, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
DeRozan is an unrestricted free agent and he can sign with any team. The 34-year-old is likely on his way to a contender as many contending teams have reportedly shown interest in him.
DeRozan has been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat.
At this stage of free agency, it doesn’t seem likely that DeRozan will sign a big deal unless it’s a sign-and-trade orchestrated by Chicago. The Bulls are reportedly open to trade DeRozan, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
DeRozan has zero interest in taking the mid-level exception for $13 million, per Haynes. Therefore, teams like the Lakers and Heat will have to get creative to create cap space or work out a sign-and-trade with Chicago.
DeRozan could always opt for a one-year deal to join a team of his choice and then re-enter the free agency market next summer in hopes of earning more.
The six-time, NBA All-Star forward averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game last season while shooting 48 percent from the field.
The Bulls are likely headed for a rebuild with the team reportedly open to moving Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball per Haynes. Therefore, it’s only a matter of time until DeRozan’s tenure with Chicago is officially over.
Trade market for Bruce Brown is quiet
With the Toronto Raptors embracing a rebuild around Scottie Barnes, Bruce Brown does not necessarily fit the team’s timeline at 27-years-old.
There is plenty of time to try and find a new home for the one-time NBA champion as free agency kicked off on June 30. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports that Brown’s market is relatively quiet, but the Milwaukee Bucks seem to be interested.
