The Toronto Raptors could be a possible suitor for Patrick Williams.
Williams is set to hit restricted free agency this summer.
The Raptors have been listed as a potential destination for the forward, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports:
“Although many executives from opposing teams believed that was a potential construct for a Patrick Williams sign-and-trade — the fourth-year forward is set to reach restricted free agency June 30, with OKC, Toronto and Charlotte already being mentioned by league personnel as possible landing spots for Williams outside of Chicago.”
The Raptors could make a run at Williams either via a sign-and-trade or with an offer sheet this offseason.
In order for the Raptors to create some cap space they would have to opt out of Bruce Brown’s $23 million team option for next season and let Gary Trent Jr. walk. This would create just less than $30 million. The Raptors would be able to make Williams a compelling offer that could pry him away from Chicago.
However, it’s been reported by Doug Smith of the Toronto Star that the Raptors are supposed to pick up Brown’s option and then trade him right after. That would hinder the Raptors chances of making Williams a serious offer.
The Raptors could also find a way to execute a sign-and-trade with Chicago.
The former 4th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft averaged 10.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists on 44.3 percent shooting from the field and 39.9 percent shooting from deep in 43 games with Chicago this past season.
Williams never developed into the type of player the Bulls had hoped for, but he’s still only 22-years-old and has time to develop. He’s a career 41 percent three-point shooter and could project into a 3-and-D type of wing for Toronto.
NBA free agency is set to begin on June 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
NBA Insider suggests Bruce Brown trade for Raptors
Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer looked at 10 players who could complete a contender and linked Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks.
O’Connor thinks there’s a deal to be made involving Bruce Brown and Brook Lopez.
