The Toronto Raptors are reportedly expected to pick up Bruce Brown’s $23 million team option for next season.
Doug Smith of the Toronto Star reported the Raptors are likely to pick up the option, then turn around and trade the 27-year-old soon after instead of waiting until the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.
With that in mind, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently put out an article looking at 1 new trade idea for every NBA team.
He suggested Toronto trading Brown to the Golden State Warriors for Canadian Andrew Wiggins:
“The Raptors could try flipping him [Bruce Brown] for a future-focused package of picks and/or prospects, but maybe they sense a quick turnaround is doable with the Scottie Barnes-RJ Barrett-Immanuel Quickley core. Maybe they’d be drawn to someone whom they simply plan on keeping longer than Brown.
Wiggins, a Toronto native, could be that player. At 29, he’s a touch older than Toronto’s nucleus, but he’s only two seasons removed from being the second-best player on a world champion. He could have more prime years in front of him, despite what his rocky 2023-24 campaign might suggest.
If Wiggins can bounce back, there’s some bargain potential in a trade here, especially if the Warriors see Brown’s expiring contract as enough of a return.”
The Raptors reportedly wanted a first-round pick for Brown around the trade deadline so it’ll be interesting to see if that would be part of their asking price again. The Warriors don’t have a 2024 first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
The Raptors already have three Canadians on the roster in Chris Boucher, RJ Barrett and Kelly Olynyk. Adding Wiggins would give them a fourth.
The Raptors are in a rebuild so it’s hard to see them going for a trade like this. They would be better off holding out for other potential deals.
Raptors legend receiving interest from Clippers
Former Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry is a free agent.
With free agency a month away, there is already a team that is rumored to be interested in Lowry’s services. That being the Los Angeles Clippers.
