The Toronto Raptors have an important offseason ahead.
They will have up to three picks in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft and then it’s free agency.
The Raptors have important decisions to make when it comes to some players on their roster.
Outside of the Raptors core of Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and Gradey Dick, there could be a lot more changes coming for this franchise.
Gary Trent Jr. is an unrestricted free agent and Bruce Brown has a team option so Toronto will have to make a decision on them. Also, will Toronto elect to make more trades and move on from a guy like Chris Boucher?
Raptors insider Doug Smith from the Toronto Star shared his thoughts on Brown, Trent Jr. and Boucher in his latest mailbag:
“I don’t think there’s room on the roster for Gradey Dick, Trent and Brown. It’s tricky, though, and my perfect solution would be to pick up Brown’s option with a deal already in place to move him, and get Trent on a two-year, $42-million(ish) deal with no options. It’s a big ask, but I’ll leave Bobby and Masai to work out the details. Chris? I like him a lot and he should be in the game, but I know they tried to find a deal for him in February and there wasn’t one. (“They can’t trade everyone at once” a guy told me then.) But I suspect he’ll be dealt around the draft/free agency.”
Toronto is likely going to trade Brown who doesn’t have a long-term fit on the team. Also, the Raptors were reportedly trying to move him at the trade deadline. Trent Jr. could be back because Toronto is going to need shooting and he did finish up the season strong. As for Boucher, he’s looking like the next Raptor to be traded. He will be better suited on a contender and the Raptors not playing him much in the second half of the season is telling that his time in Toronto is all but over.
