The Toronto Raptors are one more loss away from clinching the sixth-worst record in the NBA.
If Toronto loses to the Miami Heat in one of their final two game, they will officially have sole possession of the sixth-worst record in the league for the season.
This would give the Raptors a 45.8 percent chance of landing a top-six pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Raptors almost put itself in a tough position by nearly beating the Brooklyn Nets on April 10. If Toronto beat Brooklyn, the Memphis Grizzlies would have been just one game behind the Raptors in the reverse standings. However, Dennis Schroder did Toronto a solid favor when he took over in the fourth quarter.
As it stands now the Raptors are two full games up on the Grizzlies in the reverse standings. If the Raptors somehow win their next two games and the Grizzlies lose their next two, both teams would finish the season with the same record.
In the event that happens then a coin flip would determine which team gets the sixth-best odds in the lottery. The Raptors certainly do not want to put itself in that position and can avoid that by losing just one more time.
The Raptors will also have the Indiana Pacers 2024 first-round pick via the Pascal Siakam trade. Right now that pick is projected to be No. 19 via Tankathon.
Toronto also has the Detroit Pistons 2024 second-round pick. The Pistons currently have a 1.5-game lead on the Washington Wizards for the worst record in the NBA with three games to go in their season.
If the Pistons finish the season with the worst record, then Toronto will get the first pick in the second round via the O.G. Anunoby trade.
Raptors 2024 NBA Draft
This year the NBA Draft is being split up into two separate days so that means the Raptors could have the first pick on Day 2 of the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Raptors having up to three picks in this upcoming draft will be important for their rebuild.
