The Toronto Raptors are expected to make more moves ahead of the trade deadline.
Team President Masai Ujiri hinted at more moves coming when he addresses the Pascal Siakam trade.
Toronto is currently in a rebuild and are looking ahead to the future. Therefore, there are veteran players on their roster that would be valuable to teams looking to make a playoff push or playoff run this season.
Two Raptors players that keep popping up in trade rumors are guards Dennis Schroder and Bruce Brown.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in both players ahead of the deadline:
“The Raptors have two players on their roster the Lakers have interest in as well, sources said: Dennis Schroder and Bruce Brown. Schroder was L.A.’s backup point guard last season before signing with Toronto for the full midlevel exception in the summer.”
Schroder has had two stints with the Lakers already in his career. If traded to L.A. again this would be his third. Schroder was a big part of the Lakers run to the Western Conference Finals last season. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the Lakers have interest to bring him back.
As for Brown the Lakers reportedly coveted Brown last summer and they believed they were the favorites to sign him, before he ended up signing with the Indiana Pacers. Brown was on the Denver Nuggets team that knocked the Lakers out of the playoffs in 2023.
Will the Lakers make a deal with the Raptors?
With the Lakers barely hanging on to one of the final play-in spots in the Western Conference, it’s almost certain they will once again get aggressive before the deadline to bolster their roster.
The Lakers made a flurry of moves last year and they could do the same this year.
If the Raptors do want to do business with the Lakers, L.A. does have their 2029 first-round pick that would be intriguing to a rebuilding Toronto team.
