The Toronto Raptors have made two significant trades in the past couple of weeks, which has changed the trajectory of their franchise.
Toronto is now fully committed to a rebuild and is interested in developing the young talent on the team.
With the NBA trade deadline less than three weeks away, Toronto could look to make more moves. There are players on their roster that could be of interest to many teams.
Bruce Brown is a name that has already come up a ton in the rumor mill. He could be on his way to another team soon.
Another name that has been rumored to be traded by the Raptors is guard Gary Trent Jr. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer, so the Raptors could also move on from him.
According to NBA insider Matt Moore of Action Network, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are interested in trading for Trent Jr.:
“They (Raptors) are not done. Word is that everyone who isn’t Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, or Jakob Poeltl is available. The Raptors want to reset their timeline in terms of the age of their players. Curiously, Poeltl is 28. Gary Trent Jr. is the name most frequently discussed, with the Lakers and Nets among the teams with interest.”
Trent Jr. could definitely help a team looking to make a playoff push like the Nets and Lakers.
Gary Trent Jr.’s season with the Raptors
Trent Jr. has had an interesting season with the Raptors. Toronto brought him from off the bench to start the season and now he finds himself as a starter after Toronto dealt both Anunoby and Siakam.
Trent Jr. hasn’t been able to find any consistency so far. He has been a streaky scorer.
He put up 28 points in a win over the Miami Heat on Jan. 8 and then he followed that up with 6 points against the New York Knicks in the very next game.
For the season Trent Jr. is averaging 11.7 points per game, which is a big down year for him.
