The Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers are finalizing a deal that will send two-time All-Star Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Raptors will reportedly receive Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks in the blockbuster trade.
The Pelicans are also involved in the trade, sending Kira Lewis Jr. to Toronto.
Two of the three first-round picks the Raptors acquired will be in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Indiana’s pick, plus a pick originally acquired from the Thunder that will be the lowest pick among the Jazz, Rockets and Thunder’s picks. The other first-round pick is Indiana’s 2026 selection. The 2026 pick is top-four protected, per The Athletic.
As it stands the Raptors currently have 16 players on their NBA roster. Raptors could look reroute Brown in a trade or else Toronto may look to cut a player.
The Raptors will likely have Gary Trent Jr. starting at shooting guard and have RJ Barrett shift to small forward and Scottie Barnes will be the classic power forward.
For the bench, Brown (if he stays) and Nwora should have prominent roles with the second unit along with Dennis Schroder and Chris Boucher. Jontay Porter who’s on a two-way deal should be the backup to Jakob Poeltl when he returns from injury.
The 22-year-old point guard Lewis should be the Raptors third string point guard, a young player they can develop.
Here is what the Raptors projected depth chart could look like after the trade:
PG: Immanuel Quickley, Dennis Schroder, Kira Lewis
SG: Gary Trent Jr, Bruce Brown, Gradey Dick
SF: RJ Barrett, Jordan Nwora, Jalen McDaniels, Otto Porter Jr, Garrett Temple
PF: Scottie Barnes, Chris Boucher, Thad Young
C: Jakob Poeltl, Jontay Porter (two-way), Christian Koloko
New era for Raptors
Toronto has finally picked a direction with their latest trade. The franchise is committed to building around Scottie Barnes.
More moves could be coming for the Raptors as they could look to deal some of the veterans on their team like Bruce Brown, Chris Boucher and Jakob Poeltl.
Toronto now has some nice young pieces, draft capital and some salary cap at their disposal.
