The Toronto Raptors could get busy as the trade deadline approaches.
They have three players who are set to become unrestricted free agent in Pascal Siakam, O.G. Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr.
Siakam and Anunoby have already received a ton of attention by contending teams. A player who could also be targeted by contenders is Trent Jr.
Trent Jr. is having an inconsistent season with the Raptors and he hasn’t found his footing as Toronto’s sixth man.
It was said that the Raptors and Trent Jr. were going to work on an extension this past summer, but that never materialized.
Given how things are currently looking for the Raptors, Trent Jr. is another name that could be dealt.
Contending teams could use Trent Jr.’s shooting to help bolster their roster for a playoff run.
The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie recently profiled his top trade targets. He has Trent Jr. ranked 11th on his trade board:
“Trent’s scoring production has fallen off in the early part of this season as he’s moved to the bench. The threat of his shooting remains a real weapon even when his shots aren’t falling, but he hasn’t exactly put together an impressive contract season. The Raptors are hoping he can turn things around, both to increase his value in a potential trade and to aid their own Play-In push.”
He listed the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers as Trent Jr.’s best fits.
Trent Jr. chose to opt in to his $18.6 million salary this season which is looking like a very questionable decision now that the Raptors haven’t extended him yet. He is currently on an expiring deal and set to hit unrestricted free agency next summer.
Trent Jr. could be traded
If Masai Ujiri decides to blow it up, Trent Jr. is someone who could also be dealt before the trade deadline.
Trent Jr. doesn’t seem too thrilled to be coming off the bench and his production with the Raptors has been subpar.
Teams could be calling the Raptors about Trent Jr. along with Siakam and Anunoby.
