The Toronto Raptors haven’t done a lot of winning lately. They have lost 4 games in a row and 6 of their last 7.
Toronto is 9-14 and there are already trade rumors beginning to pop up.
The reality is if the Raptors don’t turn things around soon, they could be headed for a roster shakeup.
However, before that the Raptors could try changing up the starting lineup.
Per Josh Lewenberg, Darko Rajakovic said that he’s open to changing up his starting unit but he wants to give this current group another game or 2 to figure it out:
“Its not something thats completely off the table.”
The Raptors starters have been outscored in 6 of last 7 games which have been all loses. They’re -38 in 111 minutes over that span.
The Raptors have had the same starting lineup since the start of the season and it might be time for a change.
A popular suggestion is starting Scottie Barnes at point guard and benching Dennis Schroder for Gary Trent Jr.
Barnes has displayed excellent playmaking abilities and Trent Jr. would provide more spacing and shooting. Trent Jr. has been struggling as a bench player so maybe inserting him into the starting lineup will get him going.
Schroder has been a backup for most of his career and him leading the second unit would allow Barnes to have the ball more along with the other starters such as Pascal Siakam.
For as good as Schroder has looked this season he has had a tendency of trying to do too much and has taken too many ill-advised shots.
If the Raptors continue to drop games, Rajakovic might have no other choice but to try out a new staring lineup.
However, beyond that roster changes seem inevitable. The Raptors roster construction just isn’t good and that has resulted in the team’s poor start.
