Achiuwa strained his left groin during a training camp workout. He also missed the open practice at Simon Fraser University.
Achiuwa will undergo further evaluation when the Raptors return to Toronto.
The Raptors will hold out on an update on Achiuwa’s condition until they learn more.
The Raptors have received some bad news recently. First the team announced that centre Christian Koloko is out indefinitely with ongoing respiratory issues. And now Achiuwa has strained his left groin.
Hopefully this is just a minor setback for Achiuwa and he will be ready to go before the start of the season.
Achiuwa averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 55 contests for Toronto last season. He will be entering his fourth season in the NBA.
The Raptors will play three preseason games and then they will kick off their regular season on Oct. 25 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Other Raptors news
The National Basketball Players Association and its members on the Toronto Raptors are donating $10,000 to fund striking support workers at Simon Fraser University.
Raptors guard Garrett Temple is the NBPA vice-president and he said in a statement that the donation to the Simon Fraser’s Teaching Support Staff Union’s strike fund is to help workers in “their fight of a fair contract.”
The NBPA’s statement came hours before the Raptors held an open practice at SFU’s Burnaby campus Friday evening. The Raptors have been in the Vancouver-area for training camp in preparation for the start of the NBA season.
