Saddiq Bey led the Detroit Pistons to a 116-112 win against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, snapping a four-game losing streak. Bey had 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Delon Wright added 18 points, ten rebounds, and eight assists, and Jerami Grant had 23 points. Bey, who leads all rookies in 3-pointers with 85, was 6 of 10 behind the arc. The Raptors lost their sixth consecutive game despite Norman Powell’s 43 points and Chris Boucher’s 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting.
The Pistons outrebounded the Raptors 54-30, including 13 offensive rebounds, and had a 14-4 edge in second-chance points. Toronto’s other three starters, Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, and Kyle Lowry, missed 30 of their 37 field-goal attempts.
“That young man is already a solid pro, and he’s just getting started,” Pistons coach Dwane Casey said of Saddiq Bey. “He’s as strong as an ox, and you can see what he’s doing with his jump shot. He will be a star in this league for a long time.”
“I haven’t been able to do much for the last couple of weeks, but it was great being back out there,” said Siakam. Who returned after being absent due to COVID-19 protocols. “I’m tired, though, and I think I’ve lost some weight. Maybe it will make me faster.”
Little Caesars Arena sold 750 tickets for the game. Marking the first time in 374 days the Pistons had played in front of home fans. The Raptors have not lost six straight games since Dec. 3-12, 2012, Casey’s second year coaching the team.
